A is for Apple

The science is becoming clear, the SAD, (Standard American Diet) is not working. We’ve developed an unnatural desire for foods that are making us sick. We have become undernourished and overfed. I believe the answer is apples.  And here’s why.

Our human brain is wired to derive pleasure from food. It’s a necessary part of our survival.  Yet we now live in a world with 24 hr access to rich, calorically dense food, with added fat and sugar ( french fries, donuts, fried chicken, pizza, fast-food, pastry, candies,sugar-laden deserts).

These man-made foods are unwittingly triggering an unnatural desire for more & more in our brains. The pleasure-seeking brain is overstimulated and says “give me more”. Creating a cycle of cravings and uncontrollable desire. We now know these foods can be toxic, especially refined sugars.

But how to stop?

The answer is to start replacing these addictive foods
with fiber-rich foods instead.

We can use what we know about our brain
to help manage the cravings.

  • 1st Eliminate or cut back on these calorie-dense foods to stop overwhelming the brain’s receptors.

  • 2nd Intentionally eat nutrient-rich foods naturally packaged in fiber.

It can start with Apples.

A satisfying fiber-filled food that will nourish and satsify without overstimulating desire. Apples are full of soluble fiber and water, with a crunchy texture and slightly sweet. To experience vitality, and optimum health, you’ll want to increase your desire for natural health-promoting foods. And ultimately turn off/ turn down this unnatural desire for the junk food.

A few ideas for eating more apples:

Apple relish

  • ½-1 apple, a handful of walnuts and 2-3 dates.

  • Chop all into bite sized pieces or simply pulse in a processor.

  • Use as a topping or eat on its own.

Apple Muesli or Oatmeal

  • Using a Grater, grate half an apple into a bowl of swiss muesli
    ( ½ c ) or oats
